Hmmmm... Should I be neat or messy???

I have to say, I take a lot of pride in this party. I have put a lot of hard work, time and money into making Mattie's first birthday (party #2) a fun day for all of the kids. I know that Mattie won't remember it but one day she can look back at all of the cute photo's and see how much fun she had. Whenever I plan an outdoor event, the rain seems to come down. The sky was pretty dark all day and I was worried that it would dampen everyone's party spirit. It didn't though, and the rain held off until almost everyone had gone home. It did start to sprinkle while the kids were in the river but that didn't scare them off either. It was the funniest sight to see all of the small ones jumping off the dock in there underwear. No one brought suits because we thought it was going to rain so the clothes went off and the underoos stayed on. Mattie got to try out her pink life jacket that Nana and Papa got her. She was so happy to be in the water and you can see it on her face.
The children also had some fun painting little ceramic figurines, including Mattie. Nana and her painted a little dog, but most of the paint ended up in Nana and Mattie's hair. It gave everyone a laugh to see Mattie paint her Nana. The children also go to get Backyardigan tattoo's, face masks and party hats. Then to end the party we had a Uniqua Pinata that got smashed and bashed until we gave up and just pulled the ribbons to open up the hole. The kids got to go home with a goodie bag full of candy and crayons, sidewalk chalk and bubbles.
I loved doing the Backyardigan theme because Mattie really likes them and her eyes got big over all of the bright colors. My hope is that the kids had a blast and the parents did to by watching them have fun.
What a fun yet tiring day we had. I am beat this morning but am loving looking at all of the great pictures taken of her great day. All of the time I put into making the invitations, signs and tons of trips to town and to Syracuse for party supplies was all worth it in my eyes. It was everything that I could have dreamed of and I hope that Mattie will enjoy every birthday just as much as she enjoyed this one.
