I have never been a huge fan of pacifiers. I always said that I would never give my kids one. Well, since Mattie was a little touchy as a baby, a pacifier was the only thing that would calm her and the Dr. said that it helps cut down on the risk of SIDS. Yes, I caved in and gave her one. My goal was to have her weened off from it and the bottle by the time she was 1. Sooooooooo.... now that we are just 2 days away from her 1st birthday, her bottles and her pacifier are here NO MORE.
We never gave Mattie her Passy throughout the day unless she was teething, and we gave it to her when she went to bed, yet pulled it out usually after she went to bed. So we started going cold turkey and not letting her have it at all. She is doing great.

Now with the bottle, I really dreaded getting rid of that, but she really likes her sippy cups and so then I would just give her a bottle at bed. Well last night was a tear jerker for me, because I packed up all of her bottles. It was a sure sign that Mattie is growing up and not my baby anymore, but more like my toddler.

Good for you, Mom!! It's really difficult to take away something that your child "seems" attached to. More often than not, it's the parents that have the worst time with it. I gave Maegan a pacifier as a baby, she used it only at naps and at night. Still, when it was time to give it up, I expected the worst. Turns out, she couldn't have cared less. Hannah on the other hand, was a thumb-sucker. Much easier to get a pacifier out of a childs mouth then cut off a thumb....LOL!! She weened herself off of the thumb, however, sometimes if she's overtired I catch it in her mouth. I guess it was choosing the lesser of the two evils for the second one. Wish I would have done the pacifier though...would have been a lot easier to "retire". Okay, I've blabbed long enough...Miss you!
